Sermon Recap:

Text: Psalm 8

Big Idea: Creation sings the majesty of God!

Summary: This beautiful song is exclusively a praise to the Creator God who, through New Testament interpretation is also the Savior God. David begins by marveling at the majesty of the cosmos (see vs. 1, 3, and 9). He looks at the magnitude of the universe in the sky above and calls it the "work of [God's] fingers." This reveals the power of God and the artistry of God in the created realm. Next, David sees the favor that God has given to mankind—as small and seemingly insignificant as humans appear next to the galaxies above. But the care of God for humans moves David to praise Him!

In an interesting final observation, David makes statements about how the weak serve as the avenue for God's strength to silence His enemies. David says that from the mouths of infants God's enemies are put to rest (literally, "sabbathed"). Jesus will quote this verse during His Triumphal Entry, indicating that this psalm is pointing to Him. The author of Hebrews will quote this psalm as ultimately foreshadowing God's incarnation as a human, being made weak, to accomplish His greatest act of power—the atonement for sin through the cross.
